Iphone Troubles

I bought an iphone last year and for some reason, after the warranty ran out very conveniently, my phone started getting stuck in headphones mode all on its own. Sometimes, after i unplugged the hands free, it would still think that the jack was in and would remain in headphones mode, other times it would shift into that mode all on its own. I tried everything that apple suggested from restoring my phone to factory settings to rebooting it by hard reboot but nothing worked. even the reset option in the settings->general tabs didnt do anything. so i thought about it for a while and came up with a theory; maybe the reason that the phone was getting stuck randomly in headphones mode was because it thought that maybe i was listening to a song using the hands free head set. so maybe even after unplugging the jack, it still thought that i was still listening. so all i had to do was stop the playing of the music. now, i plugged in the jack again and started up the ipod application. i played a song, stopped the playback and then unplugged the jack after closing the ipod application. even THAT didnt help. so i wondered why it was still thinking i was playing a song.
It was then that it struck me, MAYBE it didnt think i was playing 'a' song... maybe it thought i was playing 'a certain' song, a song's playback during which i may have unknowingly  unplugged the head set jack. luckily, i remembered the song i was playing ( as it is one of my current fav songs ) and i plugged the headset in, played the song, stopped the playback, closed the application and removed the jack... no luck still, so on a hunch i did a hard reset ( u press the home button and the sleep button on top of the phone together and keep it pressed for about 8-10 secs till the apple logo shows up. DO NOT confuse the 'slide to turn off' option as a reset option. the apple logo showing up is the indication that the reset is taking place)
Once the iphone rebooted from the hard reset, it was back to normal. I have done this test multiple times and it has worked everytime. I hope this helps people save money by not having to purchase a new handset once ure warranty is over.
