Japanese Manga

History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi

One of the best manga's i've read since i got hooked onto japanese mangas. It tells the typical story of a weakling teenager who by push of fate gets to learn martial arts from the greatest of masters of 5 different styles( Karate, Kung Fu, Jujitsu, Weapons, Muay Thai) & the self proclaimed "Invincible Super Man of all martial arts" and becomes the strongest disciple.
The difference in this manga is that the techniques that the author has researched and portrayed in this manga are actually real. How do i know? Cause i too am a martial artist. The moves he learns from the Karate master are quite genuine, if in some cases named differently from the ones i know. However, the moves are essentially the same. As for the other 4 arts, well i know a bit of aikido too, so i was able to say whether the moves were named right and used right or not since aikido and jujitsu have similar roots. I must say, the author has to be a martial artist himself too, else a very very good researcher because he understands the conditions needed to be fulfilled before a move can be used in any style of martial arts... to say it differently, he knows WHEN to use a move and when not and portray it in the manga.

Another must read is The Breaker

An excellent series based in Korea somewhere. I dont recognise the martial arts mentioned in the manga and i havent had time to research it yet either. Needless to say, even if the moves mentioned in the series are all a matter of imagination... what an imagination it is. Absolutely fantastic. It is a must read for the martial arts fans too as well as for all the non martial art fans (those who love the manga and anime girls) for the art work is simply beautiful.
